My reason for setting up this site is to compile a photographic record of changes to Tralee over the past century. Most of the photographs here are from my own records but I invite any viewer or interested party to contribute to this web page.
I believe most households have old photos in albums and drawers which would be suitable for inclusion.
Family photos of weddings, communions etc. are not included here as it’s not intended to show ‘personal’ photographs. Any other event- school class groups, community occasions and gatherings: social events – along with buildings, streetscape, businesses or any areas now changed, demolished or no longer part of Tralee Town or environment is most welcome.
Editorial decision for inclusion will be maintained but only used if an image seems inappropriate, personal or in poor taste.
Ownership of this collection will pass to Kerry County Library Local History Collection once submitted. No individual or group may use this compilation for gain or reward – this to ovoid misuse.
Discretionary use of material will rest with the archivist.
I will fund and maintain this website for the next three years, but I do NOT wish to ‘own’ it. This is OUR historical photographic record of our time/era and I would like US to leave a journal of sorts, for the next generation. So I encourage and request any/all to come on board and submit your treasured photos – for posterity.
The easiest method for inclusion would be by email – this way the original would still be in the OWNER’S POSSESSION. Also I cannot accept responsibility for original photos so a copy (good) would be most welcome. Nor do I guarantee the return of original images (mainly due to costs).
The success (or otherwise) of this site rests with you the viewer . To grow it needs new ‘blood’ (Images/Photos). If disinterest is shown I will take down the site. Maybe I am the only person who has an interest in such activity. Time will tell.
My sincere thanks to Geoff Stacey, for setting up the site.To Dillon Boyer, Listowel, for his assistance in scanning in the images.
